Major in Chemical Engineering

This program instills students with the ability to design processes for the production, transformation, and transportation of chemicals, biochemicals, energy, and materials. Furthermore, this program will allow students to create new products and processes through experimental techniques, in addition to implementing created technologies at an industrial level.

The Major in Chemical Engineering deeply explores topics such as chemical thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and the transfer of mass and heat. This education allows students to specialize in a number of areas, such as foods, biotechnology, pharmaceutics, chemicals, materials, the environment, petrochemicals, minerals processing, and natural products.

Recommended Exploratory Courses

  • IIQ1001 Introduction to Chemical Engineering
  • IIQ2930 Introduction to Gastronomic Engineering

These courses will allow students to obtain a general vision of the Major in Chemical Engineering and the areas of knowledge that are studied.

Associated Depth Minors

  • Process Engineering
  • Food Engineering

Employment Prospects

The graduates of Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a Major in Chemical Engineering will be able to exercise their profession in a wide range of industrial areas, particularly as related to the conception and development of processes for producing, transforming, and transporting materials. Furthermore, graduates will be able to design new high-performance products, thereby contributing to technological innovations on a national scale.

Program Director

“The UC Major in Chemical Engineering will allow you to dominate the principles of this discipline and to apply these principles in creating new solutions in the areas of your interest, such as foods, biotechnology, natural products, environmental contamination, residue treatment, new materials, minerals processing, and many others,” Héctor Jorquera González.
