The Major in Biological Engineering is a new discipline that integrates engineering with the life sciences. Students will learn how biological systems function and develop the ability to apply this knowledge not only to solving problems, but also to developing efficient technologies inspired by biology.
Such biotechnologies contribute to addressing a wide spectrum of needs, including the creation of diagnostic tools, preventing and treating diseases, synthesizing compounds of value to industry, developing new devices and processes, and supporting environmental sustainability.
This course will allow students to obtain a general vision of the Major in Biological Engineering and the areas of knowledge that are studied.
The graduates of Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a Major in Biological Engineering will be able to exercise their profession in a number of productive areas. These industries include mining, foods, the environment, chemistry, energy, materials, pharmaceuticals, and biomedicine, among other areas dedicated to solving a wide spectrum of needs, such as the treatment and prevention of diseases, the synthesis of compounds valuable to industry, and environmental sustainability.
“The Major in Biological Engineering will provide you with the competencies needed to apply the concepts of design, analysis, and synthesis of engineering to the life sciences. Take the chance to be part of this revolution in biology, changing the course of circumstances and redesigning the future,” Daniel Garrido.
