Organizational styles and key actions to facilitate knowledge management in a construction project

Abstract

Construction companies are knowledgeintensiveorganizations are highlydependent on the skills of their projectteams. The site organizational styles arevaried and have a distinctive culture. Ifthis culture promotes socialization andsystematization of field experiences,then it is possible to support knowledgemanagement in the company. Theuse of a maturity and knowledgemanagement model permit to identifykey actions that facilitate socializationand systematization of knowledge,according to the type of organizationadopted. This paper presents the model,its foundations, the connection withsocial network analysis, and the keyactions that enable this facilitation.It is noted that for organizations withfunctional structures, actions must arisefrom the central office, working onupdating databases, internal protocols,and locate the key knowledge. Fororganizations with project structures,actions should be undertaken by theproject manager, to meet a milestoneplanned, promoting post-milestoneassessment. Its incorporation into theproject planning facilitate socializationand systematization of key information,supporting knowledge management.
